The forecast set the tone for what we were about to experience back home in Michigan. After spending a week in California from surfing La Jolla’s smooth breaks to skating through Mission Bay’s iconic streets - we returned to an entirely different scene.

The Midwest greeted us with a heavy snowstorm, transforming Lake Michigan into a frozen wonderland. The piers, typically bustling with waves, stood frozen, extending into an icy horizon. Though we couldn’t surf, we still felt drawn to the shoreline.

We layered up and headed to the lake. Walking out onto the ice, the vast, frozen landscape was humbling. The sun was shining, with blue skies peeking through the clouds, casting a peaceful glow on the icy terrain. The moment was surreal and grounding, showing that even in the stillness of winter, there’s beauty and adventure to be found.

Later, needing to scratch the itch of being on a board, we grabbed our snow gear and headed to the slopes. It had been years since we’d snowboarded, but it felt incredible to challenge ourselves again and connect to that same flow state we find in surfing. It was a reminder that the Kismet lifestyle isn’t about any one activity - it’s about showing up for the moment, embracing the challenge, and finding joy wherever you are.

Whether you're chasing waves, exploring frozen shorelines, or rediscovering old passions, every moment offers a chance to embrace the unknown. Life’s better when you lean into it - because where you are is exactly where you're meant to be.
